In my heart of hearts

I can feel that our nursing relationship is coming to an end.

And that's okay. In fact, I told LC that last night.

Last night.

It was a smooth evening full of playing, pushing the push toy down the hallway, clamboring over to his bookshelf and taking off almost every book on there - even the 'nice' ones. Dinner of pasta, mushrooms, and peas (and yes, my sweet baby ate mushrooms like it was no big deal - as in sauteed, with onion and spices, mushrooms!), and then changing into pjs while playing with his brush (he is learning to brush his hair, did I tell you this yet!?)

sidenote: the brush is an excellent distraction tool for changing a diaper and getting pjs on

We then went to nurse as we always do before bed. He didn't refuse, but he took a couple sucks on either side and kept sitting up, looking around, practicing his D sounds (he's going to be saying Dee-Dee VERY soon Granny!) :)

I asked if he didn't want any milk, if he wasn't hungry. He "answered" and it seemed to mean, yep mom, I'm cool, put me down now.

So I did. I told him it was okay. And that if he was hungry later, to let me know and I'd come give him milk.

Daddy read him a couple stories, brushed teeth, and rubbed his belly. We both said goodnight and sweet dreams. At 7:30pm.

I peeked in at 7:40 after not ONE peep of crying from him - and yep, there he was, butt up in the air, sucking on paci, little eyes sealed shut with sleep.

And he slept like that all night long, until 6:20am when he woke up and nursed like a champ. I swear he took in about 8 or 9 ozs!

So maybe this is it - maybe this is the beginning of the end - happening all on its own - normally I go back in a couple times if he cries before bed and try to nurse to calm him down to help him relax and fall into a more sleepy state.

But he is growing up - and he did it all on his own last night. He didn't need his mama.

And I'm so proud of him.

And in my heart of hearts, I know this is probably the last week that I will pump 3 times a day at work, and maybe our last nursing of the day will be at 6:20am (on working weekdays).

And that's okay - my little boy knows his Mama, he must know that my goal of one year is upon us, and is letting up a bit, doing it all for me, I just follow his lead.

And so it goes....  :)
