The Hunger Games

No, not the movie (which comes out on March 23 which I'm totally excited about but no I didn't pre-order my tickets). Anyway, I'm talking about LC and his hunger.

I think he has turned into a bottomless pit the past 2 weeks. Although it's very strange because one day he'll guzzle down 4 bottles and a stage 2 breakfast and no solid meal dinner, and wake up once a night (Thursday night), the next day he'll barely drink a bottle and a half with Daddy and have a stage 3 dinner and wake up 2 times a night (Saturday).

But we're definetaly on a 2 wake ups a night pattern, for the past 2 weeks.

After a long talk with J where we consulted one of our 203948579 baby books, our mamma and papa bear hearts and heads, and LC's cues, we decided that he is most likely legitimately hungry the times he wakes up at night. So instead of letting him *cringe* cry it out *cringe*, we are going to try to up his solid intake, and see if that helps.

Operation Fill LC's belly

Started on Saturday, 1 stage 3 jar of oatmeal/raisin/apple cinnamon in the morning after nursing -- always offer solids after nursing or a bottle - he needs the milk for at least hte first year - that's our philosophy. He sucks down the milk, and he sucks down the whole jar of food. Nursed a few more times in the day, then a stage 3 dinner. Sucked it all down. Bed by 8. Still up 2x a nite.

Sunday night - trying an earlier bedtime to see if maybe that's what he needs, go go down a smidge BEFORE he starts rubbing his eyes.

Again, a big breakfast, stage 3, a wee bit of egg while we ate our breakfast, then a stage 3 AND half a stage 2 jar for dinner. In bed by 7:15, cried/wiggled about before putting himself to sleep by 7:30.

Up at 12:30, up again at 3:30 and up again at 5:00am (although this was due to a diaper explosion - no not poop - the diaper actually exploded and little crystal things were all over the place - very strange and i don't want to know what was in it but apparently it's not toxic and I"m glad we use cloth at night nad on the weekend b/c just...eww. At any rate, when he's up he eats like really eats, not just comfort nursing, and goes right back to sleep 15 mins max, and he miraculoutly went back to sleep at 5am today! I'm so proud.

At any rate. we're going to try to up the solids in the day and see if that helps. Hopefully it will - unless it's too late and he has somehow trained himself and his belly to really be hungry at those times. Which maybe he has, and maybe I reward him for it by showing up and offering, but we'll see.

This parenting thing changes all the time. I just try to listen to my heart and my baby and do what's right.

And seeing that big smile and getting that slobbery kiss and raspberry on my cheek in the morning is worth every second of missed / split sleep :) He's the best best!

Changes they are a'coming'. Please let more solids do the trick :)
I am so not a cry it out kinda person. eek.
