and my head spun and my heart hurt and I almost started crying, why doesn't this woman realize that we aren't ready, LC isn't ready, Momma isn't ready....why is she telling me he needs x amount of jar food by this time, and he'll spit it out but he's getting used to it, keep forcing it in for a few weeks, he should have half a jar then up to 2 jars per meal and cut out a nursing session, and he shouldn't be waking up at night to eat, he may just be waking up because he's used to it, and and and.....
and breathe in, breathe out...
As my mother told me "you don't have to go out and buy him a big mac, just slowly introduce the solids"
Fortunately J is on my side, as are my other BFing friends - knowing that only we know LC the best and that we will follow his lead, do what is right for our family.
Are we going to deprive our sweet baby of solid foods - heck no - but we are of the camp 'food before 1 just for fun' as coined at my La Leche League.
I've been talking to one of our leaders the past week knowing that this big appt was coming up and that the dr would bring it up because "it's time" (heck some people see 3 months as 'time), and she's been answering all of my questions and going over some good first foods and practices and when to do what - i.e. nurse first and use the solids as complimentary foods, not replacements for the milk, since really, the first year of life, the milk is all he needs, and clearly, he is getting enough, I mean the dr had no qualms about his weight and overall growth. So um yeah, we're doing something right.
So we'll ease into the solids.
I was starting to be at peace with it on Sunday when I opened his first little pack of baby spoons - and washed them - and put them away in the drawer with our grown up silverware.
And then the dr threw all of this at me and it was like 2 steps back
And now we proceed....slowly...naturally...with gentle hands....and growing hearts....solids will come, when we're all ready, and as in true LC fashion, he will let us know, I trust that he will, and when he does, the Momma will be ready too.
