Additional Thoughts on THE Birth

So after our childbirth class this past week (we learned about epidurals and other pain medications and coping techniques). I went into our OB appointment trying not to freak about OMG how does ANYONE have a baby these days!?

I would still like the option of an epidural - but thinking baseline dose - and ease up on it when it's time to push so that I can actually feel what's going on and you know, aid in the process.

I'd still like the anti-nausea medication because, well, we all know of my fear of throw up. I know it's crazy, but what can I say.

I'd like to try to go as long as I can without medication (I'm no superhero so if this ends up being 4 centimeters then don't judge m'kay.

I'd like dim lighting (fortunately the stellar diggs at the hospital allow for this luxury. Which will hopefully keep me calm (Um, I might also have a fear of panicking - if you know me, this is not a shocker).

And some good jams on the iPod to keep the mood light - no Nine Inch Nails please - much rather some Van Morrison or Amos Lee please. J loaded some good tunes this past weekend so we've got a lot to chose from - like 80 gigs worth - shew!

And as far as other "instruments" that may or may not be used during the birth - I think I'd rather go with the vacuum (only if necessary please) over the foreceps. Talked to our OB about it and even she recommended that - if it even comes to that - for all we know we could be fretting about all this and LC will slide out in one foul swoop, no assistance needed lol :)

And of course, trying to avoid a c-section if at all possible. More worried about the recovery than the actual surgery part. But whatever the best/ safest option is at the time - I will weight the benefits, risks, alternatives, etc. But I trust our doctor and the hospital to know what they're doing. And to keep LC and I as safe as possible.
