When bad things happen to good (couponing) people

The freezer door -- was open -- All...night....long....or we think, we have no idea really. We woke up yesterday morning (early for a change), and J walked out to the kitchen to get his breakfast and I hear 'oh nooo! oh nooo! OH NOOO!'. Oh great, I think, what have the cats gotten into now!? (It is always a surprise with them - they get up on top of our armoire and try to knock the wooden turtle off and he slowly makes his way to his death that after 2 or 3 days he's teetering on the edge and J has to push him back to start - among other things they get into).

I stumble out there in a sleepy haze and see that all of our food - a whole chicken, bacon, turkey meat, 2 tubs of ice cream, a pie crust (we've been meaning to make another pie since THanksgiving when we bought the 2 for 1 crust), veggies, etc - all partially unfrozen! Omgosh - juuust great.

The veggies were squishy, the ice cream was soup, the meats were all partially thawed - and yep, it all went right in the trash :(

We are not about taking chances with bad foods in this house!

We were able to salvage the breads and my icy popsicles since they could refreeze, but the rest -- gone.

Fortunately, J is a coupon king as you all know, so it was maybe a total of $70 max for everything (and it was a lot of food), so while we didn't get our money's worth, it wasn't as bad as it could have been ya know. And the freezer is fine now, although we're going to have the maintenance guy come take a look at the seal to make sure.

Trials and tribulations of life right!?

Here is what we are left with - I don't think our freezer has EVER been this empty!
