And drove in snow...again...
So to backtrack, we've had a great trip home visiting my family - however, it had to come to and end and we had to head back to our home this morning.
Remember last Saturday when we had to drive through ice and snow and rain and yada yada. Well, low and behold, it happened again! My hometown got smacked with a huge snowstorm that started on Christmas night and went into the morning and day...leaving us no choice but to leave under the light of 9:30am and a blanket of quickly falling and accumulating snow. Shew, here we go again!
We made it about an hour out and things got better...no snow, could drive the speed limit, and really get some road under us. Then, as what happens when one consumes water or any other beverages in the car...we had to make a bathroom stop. J had to go so we found a Wawa (our fave), however it had no gas station, and apparently, no gas station = no public restrooms. Then we go down the street to a Shell station, that restroom was occupied. Then we go to a 7-Eleven, no restrooms, finally we stumble upon a Burger King, with a working restroom, and hot coffee. We both stopped off, went, and J got his first cup of coffee for the day around 11am :) Shew! It was chaotic, nerve wracking, and frustrating having to go through it, but we made it.
We got some more road under us and feasted on turducken sandwiches and pumpkin smith island cake and some sweet potato biscuits and our bottled water, enjoying the nice scenery, our funk jams on the cd player, and then, hit more snow. Arugh!
J researched several routes last night and this morning and it was like 'which route has the least amount of bad snow', so hopefully our route while snowy, was better than the alternate. We drove along and it started to get dark...fast...with snow still falling...bit fat flakes, making it hard to see the road, so we said okay, that's it, let's look for a place to stop for the night - at 6pm. We found a nice hotel, snagged a room, and here I am blogging about our day :)
Oh yeah, getting lost - that happened about 3 times. Our GPS is seriously directionally challenged, she always tries to take us the opposite route than we want to go. Fortunately, Google Maps came to our aid and I navigated from there. However some signage on the google maps was contradictory which lead to a few more trips of driving in circles. Ugh.
But, we made it this far, only about 6 to 8 hours more tomorrow -or 10 depending on the weather. And we'll be back home. I don't think I'll ever be so happy to see our lil apartment, our two kitties, and my own bed as I will be tomorrow!
I'm thinking next time we fly, at least if it will be bad weather! Man oh man, bless J for doing all this driving and keeping baby and I safe in all of this!
