We started off on our "great adventure" hehe - yesterday morning. Under the still dark morning and a blanket of softly falling snow (um yeah, we looked outside and were like 'oh shoot, for real! this was SO not in the forecast lol), J brushed off the car and on the road we went. It was great for a couple of hours and as I dozed off we were going about 20 mph on a huge highway. It was a sheet of ice basically and everyone around us was being cautious and sliding around. We slide a tiny bit, luckily it was at about 5mph and towards a concrete highway separator thing (don't freak Mom and Dad, we were fine, didn't hit it, and were going extremely slow at the time). J took it in stride, and we continued on our way. About an hour later, we stopped for some breakfast (had some granolas around 6 to keep us going and J had some coffee). After breakfast the sun had come up and the roads were pretty much 100% okay. Just wet, but no ice, so we got up to speed in no time!
Drove along for a few more hours and pondered our next meal (yes, I take my days on meal at a time), and we decided on a bbq joint that we had gone to when we went to Asheville for our anniversary! It..was...so..cool..to be back there! I sat down and immediately said as such :) I had a kids sized pulled chicken sandwich (my standard at a bbq joint), and some collard greens (SO darned good) and some melted pimento cheese ( oh this stuff is to die for!). I ate half my sammich, all of my collards and a few bites of the pimento cheese (it was a small sample cup). J ate his brisket sandwich and cheese chili grits and the other half of my sammich lol. Poor guy, always getting my scraps :) He takes it well!
Then we got back on the road and drove another 3 hours to the Chapel Hill area where we stopped of for one of their famous chicken cheddar biscuits -totally bad for you but delish - we split one of course. And then drove around the UNC campus (J LOVES that school and almost went there in fact). Then since it was getting dark, snowing a bit (crazy for that area) which later turned to rain, we went on our way to Raleigh where we got our hotel and stayed the nite.
After checking in and chilling out for a bit, we headed out to a cute little pasta place called Pasta Pronto - it's new in town, and kinda like a Panera but for pasta. I had a big garden salad and J had some mac n' cheese :)
Then we headed back and pretty much went to sleep for the night. Had been a long day, and bless J for driving us all that way.
Had we not already made our hotel reservation, and driven through varying weather, we probably could have made it the whole way yesterday. But better safe than sorry, and we only have between 5 and 6 hours to go today!
J is getting ready then we'll head down for breakfast and hit the road. 6:50Am right now :)
sidebar: this little baby knows that s/he is about to meet Mommy's family b/c s/he was moving A LOT yesterday! In the car, at our meals, it was so great! My mom says that it's because s/he knows we are going to meet MiMi :) And I believe that is true!
Enough blogging, time to head down to eat and get on the road :)
*my apologizes in advance, I forgot to bring the cord to connect my camera to the computer so I'll have to go back in and add pics darnit!*
