Almost up to date - First OB visit

A week late but been a busy week since WE TOLD THE WORLD on Monday night (November 8, 2010)!

Backtrack: We made it to Monday, November 8 – we woke up, got ready, and J made us fried eggs and toast for a nice breakfast together (very thankful for that lil piece of the day, we never get to have breakfast together on a workday morning!).

Went to our doctor’s office, waited for a few minutes (had to fill out some ‘new patient’ info since we had never seen this dr before), and then were called back.

Stats:
Weight, up about 1 lb, but barely lol.
Blood pressure: normal (shew)
Urine: normal
Blood test results from PNR: normal

Had an exam and then the dr put some of the goop on my belly and got out the dopplar to try to hear the heartbeat. (you know, the moment we had been waiting for), moved the mic around for a bit and found my heartbeat, but not the baby’s heartbeat. In the middle he looks at me and says ‘it’s still early, don’t be nervous’ (I was 11w1d at that time), and after looking for a bit, and not being successful, he said ‘let’s look on an ultrasound, how does that sound?’ …UM YES! I was hoping this the whole time! The main ultrasound room was in use at the time so the nurse rolled in a 90’s style portable computer ultrasound machine. Old school, but hey, IT WORKED!

And oh…my….goodness….we saw a head, body, LEGS and ARMS! (and the nurse saw 5 toes on one of the feet)! AND THE BABY WAS MOVING! Like all over the place! And s/he even looked RIGHT at J! He (and the dr) saw little black spots where the eyes were!!

I was at an odd angle, even when the screen was turned so I could see, and I did see the baby moving and the arms and legs but didn’t see the heartbeat, however, have no fear, J saw it, and more importantly, the doctor and nurse saw it. And said it was still strong (the old machine didn’t calculate it but he said that if the heartbeat weren’t strong, the baby wouldn’t be moving around like it was) lol. That’s our active little cub that’s for sure!

Then we set up our next appointment for December (a standard OB appointment with no ultrasound b/c we should for sure be able to hear the heartbeat at 16 weeks at that point). And went on our way to work.
