So after the Biltmore we were starving so we found a restaurant in the Biltmore Villiage called 'Corner Kitchen'...AND IT WAS FABULOUS! And coincidentally (or not) was right on a corner lot :)
A real foodie place - we had salmon julienne with crunchy potato straws and an herb mayo on crustinis as an appetizer (didn't get any pics of this entire meal...sorry), and then...are you ready for this...
I ATE CRABCAKES...OUTSIDE THE STATE OF MARYLAND!!! I KNOW! Miracle of miracles!
They were delicious...lightely breaded and barely any filler...all crab! Along with a side of spinach salad and julienned sweet potatoes that were all OUTSTANDING!
J had trout and sweet potatoes and green beans, and he liked the trout the best -- out of what he ate the entire trip!
After that we went back to the B&B and watched Next Food Network Star and Design Star (I think the dinner and relaxing evening after may have been my favorite part of the whole trip).
The next day was our anniversary!!! (awwwwww) :) 2 years !!! (double awwww). We exchanged cards (the trip was pretty much our gift to eachother unless we found something along the way, which we didn't) and had a lovely breakfast of stuffed french toast and then headed back to the Biltmore to tour the house.
A-MAZING! We did the self guided audio tour that lasted about an hour and a half and goes through 42 rooms (there were of course, MANY more rooms but it was extra to see them and the audio tour worked fine for us both). Talk about an elaborate house and the times they lived in! SO COOL! Every room had a chasse lounge for the people to come in and read and relax at different points during the day. And a lot of different parlors / sitting areas for people to socialize. Such a different time when people exercised and spent time together and read and educated themselves as opposed to now in the age of the Internet and TV and all things electronic. I wouldn't have minded living back then!
After that we came home, changed and went out to a restaurant called Fig for our anniversary dinner. Where I was adventurous again and had mushroom terine (sorta like a scrapple pattie but firmer and served cold, and a mixture of different mushrooms and cheeses - spreadable). It was delightful! And then for dinner I had a macaroni gratin which WAS FABULOUS! Leave it to me to get 'glorified mac n' cheese' on our anniversary, but I couldn't resist :) It was rich and creamy and cheesy and had bits of applewood smoked bacon in it and it was just a dream to eat!
J had duck with couscous as his entree and pork belly as his app. Said both were great, but he liked the trout from the night before a bit better :)
It was such a cute restaurant! Not a lot of people there for a Monday night in the summer so it was nice and quiet. And I kept saying (all day), 'what were we doing this time 2 years ago....' and it was usually preparing, saying our vows, or dancing our butts off (along with the other 165 people who joined us) :)
What a great day!!!!!!
The next day we got up and headed home..but....we made one stop off :) .... next post!
