So I'm kind of LOVE LOVE LOVING the cloth diapering! Like to no end!
With a little persistence from my mother, and a lot of practice thanks to LC's poops and pees, I'm fully initiated into the world of prefolds, flats & covers! Woohoo!
What I've learned:
The prefolds we got are a little big for him at this point, so we're going with the flat diapers that my aunt got me at a shower (remember the diaper cake? yep, using all 24 of those bad boys!)
The covers work AWESOME! like never had one leak (no pee up the back and onto the onsie yet!), and poop all stays contained in the diaper - mainly in the flat but sometimes a little will leak into the cover but never OUT of the cover.
And we are saving SO MUCH MONEY! Omgah! The rate this babe pees and poops, there are some times we can go through 5 diapers in an hour! Way to eat little man!
And, I've successfully initiated J after this past weekend! He puts the flat on, snappis it, and puts the cover on, careful to check and make sure all parts of the flat are tucked into the cover and voila! All done!
And LC seems to enjoy it - he is certainly not shy in firing off his massive farts and poops and pees in there that's for sure! And he's getting used to being changed. Sometimes he screams bloody murder, but other times he is calm and just waits it out like 'okay, i know you all are new at this, i'm patient' :) Such a good boy!
Next step: getting J to cloth diaper at night - we really only change him 2 or 3 times in a night since *knock on wood* he is a stellar sleeper and wakes up once or twice to eat. And that's when J springs into action, fetching him for me, and then helping me to burp him and change him - and sometimes give him his gas drops- I swear the babe has no trouble with gas, he fires them off left and right, but J seems to think the gas drops "help" - okay lol.
But he got up this morning after the 6am feeding and cloth diapered him all by himself! Yay!
Sidenote: We may need to reconfigure our changing station set up - since we're using regular wipes, we currently have a grocery bag on the door handle to put the wipes in, and the diaper pail to put the dirty dipes in. And the bathroom is across the hall so if there is a poopy diaper, it is a multi step process of getting it rinsed out and then back to the pail all the while juggling a wobbly headed babe lol.
Practice makes perfect and we'll tweak it and get it juuust right :)

Sounds like you are getting the hang of it!
ReplyDeleteBTW - there is really no need to rinse his diapers in the bathroom right now - just, when you wash them, do a cold rinse, then hot wash and then cold rinse. You only NEED to pre-rinse once he starts on solid foods.... of course though, if you want to pre-rinse - its okay too!
Also - cloth wipes are SO MUCH easier! I have been using the washcloths that I was gifted at my shower with a bit of water - no detergent needed.... keeps his bum nice and clear.
